I’m looking for a bird to get.
I am a minor so getting a bird has to get by my parents. They had a bad experience last time by getting my older sister a 20-year-living bird and they had to take care of it for like 10 years when my sister went to collage.
So is there any type of playful and affectionet bird that only lives 5-10 years? I don’t want any “just watch” birds. I want a bird that I can take out of its cage and play with it.
Is there such a bird out there?
I agree, parakeets would be a great choice, they aren’t high maitenance at all and are capable of so much; http://jamiesparrothelp.wordpress.com/2008/07/18/parakeets-the-perfect-pet-bird/

Budgies live around 5 years I think. They can be very sociable.

The thing about parrots is that the intelligence, lifespan, playfulness, etc, generally goes up with size.
If youre really into parrots it becomes an addiction and you start to not mind the 20+ year lifespan thing.
Theyre like dogs in that respect. If you spend enough time with them you will bond really closely to them and its quite upsetting when you do outlive them. And then you need more, and more and more and more.
I have 3 parrots at the moment- got my first one (A Green Cheeked Conure) nearly 2 years ago, and have since rescued a Quaker and offered a home to a lovebird. They all have very different personalities partly because of their species and partly because of how they were raised. I wouldnt trade them for the world.
Parrots need alot of work daily- even the smaller species need several hours of your attention each day. If I go away I will generally take my birds with me- or I will spend the entire time freaking out about them and come home very quickly lol.
If you want a parrot that is playful and affectionate and the level of interaction that you want I wouldnt go past a quaker or a phyrrua conure- but their life spans are about 20-30 years.
The smaller parrots will live for less time but I cant think of any that only live for five years.
Lovebirds and budgies should live for at least 10 years and can make good pets- you cant do as much with them but they are less demanding.
Both lovebirds and budgies should be kept in pairs, though.
Good luck!
